This slightly-late, but very welcome, addition to General George Washington’s Life Guard unit shows a young ensign carrying the General’s own standard or Headquarters Flag.
It was a mid blue silk banner with 13 white, six-pointed stars arranged in a 3-2-3-2-3 pattern. Used during the Revolutionary War to mark his presence, command post or marquee tent this flag is considered one of the earliest 13-star American flags.
