For children of all ages, especially those living in German-occupied countries, ‘liberation’ was not just about freedom but about the opportunity to taste and enjoy some of these long-lost delights that had been hidden for four long years.For many of the GIs themselves these European kids were a reminder of the families they had left back home and their own children or young relatives.
