Although most of the actual duties of inspection and security of the barracks or camp is taken on by the Sergeant-of-the-Guard, a good Officer-of-the Day should make regular visits to and around the various locations to ensure that proper care and attention is being paid to his instructions and orders. In between his ‘rounds’ the Officer-of-the Day is allowed to relax in The Officers’ Mess.
