Royal Scots 1st Regiment of Foot

Wounded Drummer and Officer

THE WAR OF 1812

The Battle of Chippawa, 5th July 1814

Limited Edition 500

From the time of the first skirmishes in the woods, the battle was only to take three and a half hours. The battle was relatively short, but bloody, according to official returns, over seven hundred men were killed or wounded in the fields and woods. Despite the smoke, confusion of the battle, and the inherent inaccuracy of the weapons many of the men of Scotts’ infantry were using aimed fire, and their targets were usually the officers, along the British line.

The 1st. Regiment of Foot were recorded to have had 10 officers killed or wounded.
