Rangers preparing for a raid

RAID ON ST. FRANCIS

Limited Edition 500

In 1756 Rogers chose to set up his Rangers’ headquarters on a small island in the Hudson River. This was to become known as Rogers’ Island, and was next to the British Fort Edward. It was from here that the Rangers prepared for their various scouts and raids.
Fort Edward was one of the most important of the northern British posts, located along the strategic Hudson river, and about 40 miles north of Albany. It was also less than a days march away from Fort William Henry.
Along with a Blockhouse, Hospital, Kitchens, there was a Barracks complex. This complex was made up of many small huts. These small huts were also to be found at other forts and Crown Point.
