COMING IN DECEMBER 07
for King&Country

“Operation Market Garden”

Here’s a “sneak peek” at the newest “ARNHEM” figures; some very important and valuable “add-ons” to November’s first batch of British Paras.

Availability: Mid-December

“The British Expeditionary Force 1914”

After the initial success of the First World War Germans it was essential to introduce a “fighting enemy” for them… and here they are… soldiers of the “King’s Own Scottish Borderers” — one of Scotland’s most famous Lowland regiments. The “KOSBies” as they were nicknamed formed part of the original B.E.F. sent over to France within days of war being declared. They took part in much of the fighting that attempted to delay and halt the massive German assault through Belgium and northern France in August 1914.

These new figures are in a wide range of useful “action” poses and, I believe, will be very popular. Being “Lowland Scots” they do not wear the traditional kilt (although some officers did wear tartan trews). The men are easily recognized by their distinctive Scottish “Glengarries” (with the colourful dicing band).

“BACK TO THE DESERT… ON A STRICTLY LIMITED BASIS!”

With the growing popularity of the Afrika Korps and 8th Army series K&C decided to make a Christmas“Strictly Limited” release something which could be a focal point for North African Campaign collectors…

AK039 (SL) “The Tunisian Tiger”

Availability: Early December

This is the 7th different Tiger in just over 10 years… and it’s the best yet! This brand-new model is not only the best… it’s also the biggest and earliest type of Tiger K&C has ever produced. They have produced the “classic” early version of this armoured monster that fought in Tunisia towards the end of the Desert War. This K&C model comes with a complete 5-man crew… 3 of which are full body. This fighting vehicle is in the markings of 501 Panzer Abteilung as it would have appeared in February 1943.

Just 1,250 of this unique model are being produced. Order yours now!

“FINALLY A LITTLE STREET SCENE…”

COMING IN DECEMBER for John Jenkins

To accompany the “Battle On Snowshoes” sets we presented you last month there are 2 new British sets for December.

MAKING YOUR BATTLE ON SNOWSHOES DIORAMA

John has decided to let us know his secrets for making such incredible dioramas. So each month we will talk about a specific topic. This month we’ll start with the TREES.

All you need to make the trees on the Snowshoes diorama, are some wire coat hangers! With a pair of pliers or wire cutters, cut the coat hangers into the lengths you want your trees to be. Mine were 7" to 9", but it may depend on your display area. This is a good time to put some slight bends into the wire to lose that unnatural straight look.

I then use packing tape to thicken the wire, to give more body to the tree. Once the wire is thick enough, use masking tape for the final layer. Leave about 1"-2" at the bottom of the wire, unwrapped so it can be stuck into the polystyrene base.
Artists texture paste, available from most Art and Craft shops can then be brushed onto the masking tape. This hides any texture of the tape. If brushed on liberally and in the direction of the tree bark, it will help the painting later on.
Use Vallejo Paint Colour, Stone Grey as a base colour Brush with a small square 3/8" brush a dark brown Vallejo colour. The rougher the paint is applied the more effective it will be.
Add a warmer layer, using Vallejo colour again the rougher the application the more effective. Use the broad part of the brush to create blocks of colours. The edge of the brush can be used for narrower areas and smaller blocks of colour near the top of the tree.
Add Pale Sand
Final step paint with horizontal brushstrokes using white paint.
