World War II Montgomery's 8th Army
The 8th Army, formed in late 1940 by British and Empire troops, was frequently outmanoeuvred in the Western Desert by the quick thinking and resourceful Rommel. "Flies in your beer, sand in your food … and then there's the bloody Germans!" Outmanoeuvred, that was, until General Bernard Montgomery was appointed 8th Army commander.
