Virginia Regiment
Virginia Provincial Regiment of Foot, 3 figures marching The Virginia Provincial Regiment was formed in 1754, and one of its main duties was to man the chain of small forts and patrol along the frontier during the war. The Regiment served at Fort Necessity, and with Braddock at Monongahela, as well as several other expeditions and campaigns during the French and Indian war. After the death of Col. Joshua Frey in 1754, command fell to Lt.Col. George Washington, who remained in command until 1758. It was under George Washingtons command that the "Virginia blues" uniform of blue with red facings was introduced, and remained with the regiment for its entire existence until 1762. It is not surprising that the blue coat became the colour for the first American uniform introduced by George Washington in the later American War of Independence.
